Deacon Jonathan “John” David Simmons, Sr. son of the late Benjamin and Catherine Simmons was born August 14, 1952 in Tampa, Florida. He departed this life on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at The Ralph H. Johnson VA Hospital in Charleston, SC.
At an early age, John accepted Christ as his personal Savoir, was baptized and became a member of The Church of God in Christ in Seffner, Fla. Later on, while moving around in the Military he rededicated his life to Christ at Second Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Beaufort, SC and became a deacon on August 4, 1996.
John received his education in Brandon Fla and graduated from Brandon High School. In March of 1976, he joined the United States Marines Corps and stayed in for seven years. He was employed at Beaufort Jasper Water and Sewer Authority where he retired after 22 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Lee Graham and Malvese King; nephew, Eric Simmons; niece, LaShawn Simmons and great grandmother, Josephine Hamilton.
Deacon Jonathan “John” David Simmons, Sr. leaves to cherish his loving memories: his beloved wife, Sharon of 26 plus years; two daughters, Jaleesa Simmons (Paul) of Beaufort, SC, Johanitia Cadet (Mackenzie) of Virginia; four sons, Jonathan, Jr. of Beaufort, SC, Patrick, Anthony and Isreal Simmons all of Tampa, Fla.; he also leaves behind, eight grandchildren; his siblings, Christopher Simmons (Yvonne) of Tampa, Fla., Bennie Simmons (Juanita) of Sacramento, CA and Roger of Tampa, Fla; four sisters, Lonnie Otis, JoEllen Walker, Catherine Simmons and Angela Edwards (Kerry) all of Tampa, Fla; four aunts, Edna Mae Johnson, Evelyn Cooper, Laura M. Smalley and Mary Ann Miller and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Staff Sergeant Jonathan Simmons, Sr., 67, of Burton, SC died Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Ralph H. Johnson VA Hospital in Charleston, SC. He was the husband of Sharon E. Simmons. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Friday, October 25, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home Chapel in Beaufort, SC. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Second Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Burton, SC. Burial will take place 12 noon Monday, October 28, 2019 at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC. Allen Funeral Home of Beaufort in charge.
