Robert E. "Bobby" Metz

     Mr. Robert Edward Metz, Sr. son of the late Blossom Rebecca Heyward and Robert “The Rock” Metz was born November 5, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York. He moved to Beaufort, SC in the early 1950's. He began his formal education at the Warsaw Island schoolhouse. He later enrolled at St. Helena Island Consolidated School, later graduating from St. Helena High School. 
Robert's early introduction to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ began by attending prayer service at the Warsaw Praise House. As a young adult, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a member of the Male Chours until God called him home.  
As a result of his generous spirit and pleasant personality, he was loved by many. He returned everyone's love for him by treating others with respect and dignity. He always strived to treat others in the manner in which he wanted to be treated. Robert was employed by Waste Management for many years, he specialized in operating heavy duty equipment. He was an avid fisherman. His other hobbies included playing and watching baseball and watching classic television shows. "In the Heat of the Night" was his favorite show. 
  On February 11, 1960, He was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life Eleanor Washington. Out of this union, they were blessed with four beautiful children, Barbara Jean, Ezekiel, Robert, Jr., and Carl.
Robert was a member of the Most Wonderful Mt. Sinai Grand Lodge, A.F. & A.M, King Solomon #10 Masonic Lodge, Member of the Supreme Grand Royal Arch Center, Knight of the Most Worshipful Mt. Sinai Grand Bethlehem Commandery#1 and Knight of Temple and Most Worshipful Mt. Sinai Grand Consistory#1, and also a member of the G.Q. Cilvic Organization.
On Friday, November 2, 2018, at his residence in the Warsaw community on St. Helena Island, SC, God sent His angel to bring Robert home. Robert quietly departed this life. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Eleanor; his daughter, Barbara Jean Metz-McClain and son, Carl Ervin Metz.
His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children: Ezekiel (Diane) Metz and Robert B. Metz, Jr. (Karren) all of St. Helena Island, SC; like sons, Desmond Washington and Lorenzo Bobby Metz both of St. Helena Island, SC; brother, Tommy Brown (Josephine) of Columbus, GA; like a sister, Mary Heyward of St. Helena Island, SC; daughter in law, Lynn Metz of Miami, FL; five sisters in law, Vivian Washington, Mildred McClain, Annie Mae (Bobby) Dawson, Beatrice Washington all of St. Helena Island, SC and Mabel Washington of Miami, FL; one brother in law, Earl (Beatrice) Washington; six grandchildren, Shardae, Carmeshia, Janiqua, Lorenzo, Robert, Marquis, MiKayla; great-granddaughter, Precious; also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and associates.
