Leola "Flossie" J. Scott Obituary


Leola J. “Flossie” Scott was born on July 23, 1937 to the late Angie Jenkins and Theodore Mack. She was 1955 graduate of St. Helena High School. She retired from Beaufort County School, where she was a food service worker.
  On April 28, 1956, she married James Scott. 
At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at United Church of Jesus Christ. Later in life she moved her membership to Ebenezer Baptist Church. She has served on the Pastor’s Aide Board and the Women’s Auxiliary Board. She was a very active member of the St. Helena Senior Citizen, until her health started to decline. They were an extension of her family. 
Flossie enjoyed being with her family and friends.
On Tuesday, November 19, 2019 God saw that she was tired, and called His daughter home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her adoptive parents, Thomas “Harry” and Joanna “Josephine” Sumpte; her sisters, Violet Alston and Helen Simmons; children: Raynard Sumpter, James Donald Scott, and Kathleen Scott, and a grandson, VicTroy Scott. 
Those left to cherish her memories are her children: JoeAnn (Bennie) Jackson, Pearly Mae Johnson, Lorine (Ronald) Chaplin, Geraldine Miller, Jonetha (Sammie) Singleton, Beverly Scott, Cloyd Scott, Floyd Scott, and Erica Bennett (Mike) all of St. Helena Island, SC; daughters in law: Rosemary Sumpter of Spartanburg, SC, Mary Scott of Tennessee; twenty-eight grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren; two god daughters: Evelena Martin and Willie Mae Parker; brother: Harold (Claretha) Green of St. Helena Island, SC; uncle: Rufus Mack of St. Helena Island, SC; aunt: Essie Mae Mack, St. Helena Island, SC; nephew just like a son: Christopher (Shirley) Jenkins; neighbor just like a son: Thomas (Dorothy) Williams; to include a host nieces, nephews, many cousins and many friends; special friends: Doris Holmes, Mary Harding, Henrietta Blanding, Mildred Francillion, Agnes & Clarence Holmes, and the Sisters of the Franciscan Center.
