George "Hamp" Hamilton

George “Hamp” Hamilton, Jr. of Savannah, Ga passed away quietly and peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, after a brief illness. Born July, 15, 1933 in Hilton Head, SC, he was the first born son of the late George Simmons, Sr. and Minnie Hamilton who preceded him in death.
George was beloved in his community of Savannah, where he was affectionately known as “the candy man”. He was a hard worker from his youth, and operated many businesses throughout his life.  George was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and spending quiet time on his boat. He will be remembered for his kind heart and desire to help anyone in need. Above all, he dearly loved his family and was tremendously proud of his children. Throughout, the years we all benefited from the nuggets of hard-earned wisdom he offered us. He was a true example of strength and perseverance. 
He leaves to cherish his memory his sons,: Rodney Jenkins (Helen) of Beaufort, SC, Reverend Dr. Charles Hamilton, Sr. (Mary) of Bluffton, SC, Sammy Lee “Phares” Hamilton (Lisa) of Fernandina Beach, FL and Mark Mitchell of Beaufort, SC; brother, Rudy Simmons, Hilton Head, SC; special nephew, Roy Howard and nieces Alberta and Cynthia; granddaughters, Bridgette Jenkins-Spencer and Michelle Singleton and five great grandchildren; He will be truly missed by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and his neighbors, Jackie Young and Sam Janrette.

George "Hamp" Hamilton, 85, of Savannah, GA died Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Landmark Hospital in Savannah, GA. He was the father of Reverend Charles (Mary) Hamilton of Bluffton, SC, Rodney (Helen) Jenkins, Sammy Lee "Phares" (Lisa) Hamilton and Mark Mitchell. Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday, April 25, 2019 at St. James Baptist Church on Hilton Head Island. The body will repose in the church from 10 am until time of service at 11 am. There will be no viewing after the eulogy. Allen Funeral Home of Ridgeland in charge.
